Your New Favorite Scent

Barbara Bowers discovered her love for candle making unexpectedly, shortly after losing her job in the EMS industry. After a short time spending her newfound free time at home, her husband suggested that she find a hobby to keep her occupied. Since she already had a self proclaimed candle addiction, (which happened to be a relatively expensive one, at that!) she decided to take a candle making class with her aunt. It was here that Barbara realized she not only loved having candles, but she loved making them as well.

Barbara’s passion for creating her own candles snowballed from there. She began not just making candles for herself, but also for her friends and family. A year and a half ago, she turned her passion into a business, and Lancaster Wax Co. was born.

Barbara creates her melts from 100% American soy wax. All of her products are phthalate free and vegan, and most of her materials are sourced locally from within the state. Her array of unique scents range from delicious White Tea and Ginger to seasonal holiday favorites like Snow Day and Eskimo Kisses.

Barbara finds her inspiration from interacting with her customers, receiving their feedback, and seeing them happy with products that she’s created. She discovered The York Merchant through a friend, and is so happy with the response that she’s received thus far. She’s excited about all of the renovations that the property is going through, and is looking forward to what the rest of the building will end up becoming.
