Dream, Create, and Inspire
Violet Baldwin originally had two goals when she first started her business - to help others, and to work with artwork. Looking around the job market at the time, however, she didn’t see anything that filled both of these criteria. So she ultimately decided to create her own business. Baldwin’s Dirty Little People Art Gallery was originally going to be a brick and mortar gallery, but after some reflection, Violet realized that it wasn’t just the artwork that was truly motivating her - it was the artists themselves.
While Violet’s original goal was to work with artwork, it had quickly transitioned into working with the artists. She decided to combine her 20 plus years in the general public retail world, and working with art, and came up with the service based business that she now has today. She removed the word “art” from her original business name, and her “gallery” is now the extensive group of individual artists that she works with. Violet acts as the artist representative, and helps the budding artist who is struggling to get their foot in the door. She helps these artists to navigate the business world in order to help them move forward in their career. The official mission of Baldwin’s Dirty Little People Gallery is “to consistently help artists and artisans to show more, sell more, and do more.”
Violet currently works with artists in four different counties, and has experience showcasing their artwork in various marketplaces throughout. When she discovered The York Merchant online, she knew this would be another great opportunity to increase exposure for her artists. In The York Merchant, her artists have space within the Gallery section of the marketplace, and she also has her own booth as well, where she showcases items that partner with the visual artwork, like notecards, prints, and much more.
The artists that Violet works with are the foundation of everything she does. She says it’s the people that not just motivate her, but inspire her as well. Their creative energy helps channel her own creative energy into running her business. Their stories, their art, their love and passion for what they do, and their trust in her as a service provider keeps her doing what she does each and every day. Her goal is to keep helping “as many creatives as possible continue to do what they do- dream, create and inspire others to see the world from a different point of view.”
Violet is always welcoming new, emerging artists to join her gallery. She knows that many people have been experiencing hardship this past year, and during this time is offering special discounts on her services in order to help artists get started in their professional journeys.
