Through The Creative Lens

Tim Trexler discovered his creative side later in life, while working as a marketing manager in the corporate world. After convincing his company to purchase the Adobe Creative Suite, and subsequently playing around with the tools in Photoshop, he thought how nice it would be to have a good camera and be able to do some pretty cool things with the program. He was able to acquire a camera from one of his colleagues, and he began following some photographers on YouTube and experimented with taking photos. To his surprise, his friends told him that he had “the eye,” and Tim realized he had found his creativity that he never knew he had.

After discovering his creative eye, Tim continued to advance his technique and purchased better and better cameras. Because he traveled a lot for work, he had many opportunities to visit new places and take photos. In 2017, he printed out his very first photo, which was a photo of a specific tree in Laola, PA that a friend had requested. This photo marked the beginning of the transition from photography being a passion project for Tim, to becoming an eventual business.

Tim found The York Merchant after seeing a post on social media. After visiting the space and feeling like it would be a great fit, he took the leap and joined the community. The York Merchant is Tim’s first retail space. He built his booth from the ground up, and was lucky enough to have a fellow member of the York Camera Club donate a huge amount of frames, frame glass and mattes to help him get started.

Tim has some exciting projects for the near future that he plans on bringing to his space at The York Merchant. He is currently developing a line of men’s fragrance soaps that he’ll be offering for sale. He’s also working to export a line of South African art. He spent some time in South Africa during his travels, and fell in love with the street art he saw while over there.

Tim donates a percentage of his photography and soap sales to local charities, and when the South African art comes over, he plans to donate a percentage of those sales to South African charities, including a friend's feral cat rescue. Thanks to the exchange rate those donations will help out a lot!

In Tim’s own words, “Photography has been a wonderful journey in my life that has fulfilled the creative desire in my heart. I love how you can stop time for that fraction of a second and have something besides just your memory to keep.” He considers his art his gift to the world, and he loves being able to share his vision with others.
