Being Their Voice

Amy’s journey into helping animals live longer, healthier lives was born from a heartbreaking experience she had with her own dog, Abby. For most of her 14 years, Abby was sick, and neither Amy nor her vet could figure out what was causing her issues. In 2016, Abby’s health took a turn for the worse and she crossed the rainbow bridge. After she passed, Amy discovered that it was actually the food she was feeding her that was directly contributing to her health issues all those years. She discovered that all of the fillers, by-products and dyes that are in mass produced commercial pet food are in fact hurting the animals that are eating it. After she adopted her next dog, Amy vowed to make a change.

In 2019, Amy saw a Facebook ad for the Pet Wants franchise. She watched the video, and saw Michele Hobbs, who went through the exact same experience that Amy did with Abby. After her loss, Michele went through extensive research and ultimately decided to create her own pet food, free from all of the by-products and fillers. Her goal was to help pets get healthy and live longer. Michele ultimately founded the company, Pet Wants, in 2010 in Cincinnati. This message hit a chord in Amy’s heart, and she knew she had to be a part of it. After further research, she knew that this was what she wanted to do with her life, and Amy opened Pet Wants Lancaster.

All dogs and cats don’t have a voice. They need someone to speak for them, and Amy wanted to be that voice and help share this important information with the surrounding community. Many people don’t know what’s in their pets' food, nor do they even think to question what’s in it, so Amy knew this was an important message she needed to share. There are many health issues that pets face that are a result of poor nutrition including increased shedding, throwing up, diarrhea, muscle and joint issues, and more. All of the Pet Wants products are free from sugar, fillers, animal by-products, and they never use corn, wheat, soy, or dyes, which makes the food great for animals with allergies. Amy and the Pet Wants community believe that pets are truly like our children, and should be treated exactly like that.

Amy discovered The York Merchant online, and after visiting, realized that this marketplace would be a perfect fit for her business, and would be yet another way to reach more people and spread even more awareness about pets health and nutrition. Pet Wants Lancaster offers dog and cat food, treats, chews, supplements, Spaw products, as well as an array of resources to help pet owners navigate how to best care for their pets. Amy also offers free delivery to the surrounding areas.
